Information On Feeding Wild Birds, And Wild Bird Food

It’s cold, the birds are hungry – and you can help our feathered friends by feeding Wild Bird Food on a regular basis. In severe weather, (which seems to be happening more often these days), feed twice daily if you can; in the morning and again in the early afternoon.

Birds need high energy food, especially in this cold snap, it’s important that they can sustain their fat reserves, so it’s really important that we choose a good quality wild bird food, that will provide plenty of energy. However try to adjust the feed according to the demand, don’t leave uneaten wild bird food to accumulate around the feeders, surprisingly good hygiene for birds is very important, it is possible that you could be doing more harm than good, but the good news is that feeding wild bird food is a lot cleaner than feeding many other types of food.

Establishing a routine to feeding the birds is important, once you have established your routine, try and stick to it , because the birds will return to your garden at that time for their wild bird food with real enthusiasm, this food really is a life line to our garden birds.

Bring wildlife into your garden is just so rewarding

Even if you haven’t got a garden, you and your children can get enjoyment from feeding from a window or balcony. For only a small sum of money to purchase the wild bird food, you can enthuse children about the world around them and get them involved in feeding and watching the birds, and give them a sense of pride that their offering of Wild Bird Food is enjoyed so much.

We are asked many times about the best way to feed the birds. Many people ask about the best type of food to give the birds, and if individual birds need particular foods. Our answer is if you feed a quality Wild Bird Food, you can be assured that you are feeding the correct food every time.

It is always best to leave out only enough wild bird food to last the birds for a couple of days. This will ensure that food doesn’t build up and that there is less opportunity to attract other less welcome animals such as cats that can cause alarm amongst your birds. Remember to clear the bird table regularly and again, don’t put out too much.

If you have a cat, or your close neighbours have cats, then a bird feeder set in a safe location is a better idea than a bird table that is accessible to cats and other preditors

Nothing quite beats the sound of birdsong in our gardens and, by setting up a few feeders containing different varieties of Wild Bird Food, you’ll hopefully get to witness a number of different species visiting your garden on a daily basis.
